Port Wine Cellars Map: The Port Lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia
This port wine cellars map places the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia that take visitors, street by street. Almost all of them stand on the south bank of the Douro, across the Ponte Luís I from Porto. The page splits them into three groups: the riverfront lodges on Avenida de Diogo Leite and around Largo Miguel Bombarda, the cellars on the hill along Rua do Choupelo and Rua do Agro, and the houses further out. It ends with a walking route from the cable car down to the bridge. For tours that bundle several cellars with a guide, see the Porto wine cellar tours compared on the homepage.

This port wine cellars map covers 16 places, from the riverfront warehouses to the lodges on the hill and three houses further out. The only cellar on the Porto side is the IVDP bar at Rua Ferreira Borges 27 in the Ribeira.

The Riverfront Cellars
These are the cellars on the Gaia waterfront. They stand on Avenida de Diogo Leite, Largo Miguel Bombarda and Av. Ramos Pinto.
Sandeman
Sandeman stands at Largo Miguel Bombarda 47, 4400-222 Vila Nova de Gaia. Visits are guided and end in a tasting room, and the Sogrape site requires booking online in advance. The cheapest option is the Porto Sandeman Visit at €23, which lasts 50 minutes and pours three ports: a White, a Ruby and a Tawny.
The cellar opens daily 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-18:00, with last tours at 12:15 and 17:15. Tours run in English, Portuguese, Spanish, German and French, and you confirm legal drinking age to enter. Full details are in the Sandeman Porto guide.
Ferreira
Ferreira stands at Av. Ramos Pinto 70, 4400-082 Vila Nova de Gaia, and like Sandeman it belongs to Sogrape, so you book online. Visits are guided and tastings are poured in the Blue Tiles Room.
The Porto Ferreira Visit costs €23, lasts 50 minutes and pours three ports. There is also a Dona Antónia Visit at €35 for 1h30 and five wines, and a Casa Ferreirinha Visit at the same €23 price that pours Douro DOC table wines and no port at all. Doors open daily 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-18:00, last tour 12:15 or 17:15.
More in the Ferreira port cellars guide.
Ramos Pinto Visitor Centre
The Ramos Pinto Visitor Centre is at Av. Ramos Pinto 400, Vila Nova de Gaia. The building doubles as the Adriano Ramos Pinto museum, and guided visits pair the cellars with tastings: Classic at €20 with three ports, Prestige at €30 and Heritage at €50.
If you only want to drink, walk-in tastings need no reservation and start at €13. The centre opens every day 10:00-18:00, closing only on 1 January, Easter Sunday and 24 and 25 December. Fixed-language slots run at set hours, with English at 11:00 and 17:00.
The Ramos Pinto Porto guide has the full list.
Cálem
Cálem occupies Avenida Diogo Leite 344, 4400-111 Vila Nova de Gaia, founded in 1859. The visit combines a guided cellar tour, an interactive museum, a tasting and a wine bar, and the shop welcomes walk-ins daily 10:00-19:00. The bookable version on this site pairs the tour with a live Fado concert, priced at $31 on the tour card.
That ticket covers a 30-minute guided tour and a 45-minute concert with a male and female vocalist and two guitars. Evening departures run at 6:00 PM or 6:30 PM depending on the season. See the Cálem Cellar Tour with Fado page for booking.
Kopke
Kopke operates a tasting room and shop in a century-old warehouse on Avenida de Diogo Leite, Vila Nova de Gaia. This is a stop-in rather than a lodge visit: there is a tasting room and shop, and no set cellar tour is listed for the address. The shop opens daily 10:00-19:00 and no booking is stated, so it fits any gap in your plan.
Prices for the tastings are not stated in the sources, so ask at the bar. Kopke shares ownership with Burmester under the Kopke Group.
Burmester
Burmester stands at Largo Ponte Luiz I, 4400-111 Vila Nova de Gaia, beside the Luis I bridge. The house dates its founding to 1750, and the visit is a guided cellar tour followed by a tasting, with booking required. The bookable tour costs $26 and runs 45 minutes to 1 hour, with a renewed museum and sensory experience included and two or three ports depending on the option.
Pairings with chocolate, cheese or almond cookie can be added. Check the Burmester Cellar Tour page for options.
Espaço Porto Cruz
Espaço Porto Cruz fills Largo Miguel Bombarda 23, 4400-222 Vila Nova de Gaia. It is less a lodge and more a port experience space: boutique, tasting room, restaurant and a 360-degree lounge terrace looking over the Douro and the Ribeira. The standard visit is an audio tour followed by a commented tasting of three ports, with prices at the listing ranging €9.50 to €55.
The Porto.CARD gives 10% off with an advance reservation. Hours for the space differ between Visit Porto listings, so confirm before you go.
Quevedo Lodge
Quevedo Lodge sits on the Gaia riverfront, though the street address is not stated in the sources, so use the riverfront row as your guide. It works as a wine bar with a tasting room, and tastings run 40 minutes each with a minimum of two people: a Porto Discovery flight at €16 per person or a Porto Special Selection at €29 among the options. Live Fado plays Monday, Wednesday and Friday 15:00-17:00.
Hours are November-March 11:00-19:00 and April-October 12:00-20:00, closed 25 December. Tastings can be booked in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian.

The Cellars on Rua do Choupelo and Rua do Agro
Rua do Choupelo, Rua do Agro, Rua Rei Ramiro and Rua da Fonte Nova hold the big names, and the Teleférico de Gaia is one way up.
Taylor's
Taylor's stands at Rua do Choupelo 250, 4400-088 Vila Nova de Gaia, and the house traces its founding to 1692. Entry is walk-in, with optional time slots, and the tour is self-guided with an audio guide in 13 languages. The bookable card costs $28 and covers the audio tour plus a tasting of three ports in the garden.
One practical note from the listing: bring your own headphones, because the guide plays on your phone. Details on the Taylor's Port Cellars Tour page.
Graham's 1890 Lodge
Graham's 1890 Lodge sits at Rua Rei Ramiro 514, 4400-281 Vila Nova de Gaia, with the visitor centre at Rua do Agro 141. It is a working lodge, and visits are guided with reservations required. The bookable option costs $78, lasts 2 hours and ends in the Vintage Room, styled as a historic library, where you taste Graham's vintage ports and tawnies.
Groups are limited to 10 guests. The Vinum restaurant is on site if you want to eat afterwards. Book through the Graham's Vintage Room Tasting page.
Fonseca
Fonseca occupies Rua do Choupelo 84, 4400-187 Vila Nova de Gaiaand the house dates its founding to 1815. The visit format is a self-guided audio tour with a tasting room at the end, and entry is walk-in. Groups over 15 need tickets booked in advance, and the Fado dinners held here always need a reservation.
Prices for the standard visit are not stated in the sources, so check on site or with the house before you go. Its location on the same street as Taylor's makes the two easy to pair.
WOW Porto
WOW Porto is at Rua do Choupelo 39, 4400-088 Vila Nova de Gaia, a large cultural district. It is a museum district, not a working cellar, and the bookable highlight is The Wine Experience museum: sensory stations, aroma challenges and a guided tasting of a red, a white and a Port, priced at $22.88 on the card and running about 1.5 hours with a multilingual audio guide. Entry is walk-in with district hours 10:00-19:00.
Be clear about what you are buying: this is a museum visit, not a port lodge tour. Details at WOW Port and Wine Experience.
Churchill's Lodge
Churchill's Lodge is at Rua da Fonte Nova 5, 4400-156 Vila Nova de Gaia. Visits are lodge tours with a tasting, and the site shows a booking flow, so reserve ahead rather than turning up. The lodge opens Monday to Saturday 10:00-18:00 with the last visit at 17:00, and the basic Lodge Tour and Tasting is paid on site with no online price shown.
Higher formats run from €75 per person for the Porto and Douro Discovery with cheese pairing up to €200 for the winemaker selection. The 1982 Bar in the garden opens Wednesday and Thursday 12:30-18:30, Friday to Sunday until 19:30.
Cellars Further Out
Three working houses sit away from the main riverfront row, plus one stop on the Porto side of the river.
Cockburn's
Cockburn's is at Rua Serpa Pinto 346, 4400-307 Vila Nova de Gaia, with the car entrance on Rua Dona Leonor de Freitas 225. It is the largest port lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia and it holds the longest ageing gallery of any cellar in the city, and its address is Rua Serpa Pinto 346. Visits are guided, run about 1.5 hours and are for guests with reservations only.
The bookable tour costs $34, rated 4.8 from 4,417 reviews, and includes the cellars museum and a three-port tasting in the main room. Classic, chocolate, tawny and cheese versions exist. See the Cockburn's Port Lodge Tour page.
Poças
Poças stands at Rua Visconde das Devesas 168, 4400-337 Vila Nova de Gaia. The house was founded in 1918 and stays family-owned, and the format is a guided walk through the ageing cellar followed by a tasting of three ports: a White, a Late Bottled Vintage and a Reserve Tawny. Booking is recommended and runs online, and the bookable visit costs $26.31, lasts 1.5 hours and takes up to 20 guests.
Sausage or cheese selections are sold separately and are not part of the ticket. Details on the Poças Port Cellar Tour page.
Real Companhia Velha
Real Companhia Velha is at Rua Azevedo Magalhães 314, 4430-952 Vila Nova de Gaia. The company dates to 1756, and the visit takes in the cellars, the private Silva Reis family cellar with its 16,000 bottles, a museum and the Enoteca 17.56 restaurant for lunch. Booking is required and confirmed on deposit or payment, and two reviewers say the listed address sent them a block away, so check the meeting point shown at booking.
The Royal Oporto tour costs $22, the lowest card price on the site. Book at Real Companhia Velha Cellar Tour.
IVDP Port Wine Bar
The IVDP is the one stop on the Porto side of the river, at Rua Ferreira Borges 27 in the Ribeira. It is the Port and Douro Wines Institute, and the visit combines the Port and Douro Interactive Learning Centre, a tour of the laboratories and tasting chamber, and a self-service Port Wine Bar where you pick eight ports using a magnetic card. Hours for the shop and tasting room are 10:00-19:30, closed Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, so plan it for a weekday.
Prices are not listed on the institute's pages. Tours of the labs are booked separately from the walk-in bar.

A Route Through the Cellars
One practical loop that covers the map from the top of the hill down to the river and back over the bridge, using operator hours. Adjust the number of tastings to your own pace.
The Walking Order
Start at Jardim do Morro, at the Gaia end of the Ponte Luís I upper deck, and ride the cable car down. The ride takes 3 minutes 45 seconds and the round trip costs €10 for an adult, with hours from the operator: 10:00-20:00 from late April to late September, 10:00-19:00 in the shoulder seasons and 10:00-18:00 the rest of the year. From the Cais de Gaia station, work along the riverfront, then go up to Taylor's, descend to the IVDP bar on the Porto side, and return over the lower deck. The bridge was built 1881-1886 as a double-deck iron arch, and both decks carry pedestrians.
If you would rather have a guide handle the route and the tickets, the Three Port Houses Walking Tour covers three cellars with seven tastings in 3.5 to 4 hours, or browse the full range of port wine cellar tours before you set out.
- Take the Teleférico de Gaia down from Jardim do Morro to Cais de Gaia. It runs from 10:00, and the family round trip costs €22.50 for two adults and two children.
- Walk along Avenida de Diogo Leite. Kopke's tasting room opens daily 10:00-19:00 if you want a first glass without a tour.
- Continue to Av. Ramos Pinto 400. The Ramos Pinto Visitor Centre opens every day 10:00-18:00, and walk-in tastings need no reservation.
- Head uphill to Rua do Choupelo 250. Taylor's takes walk-ins for the 13-language audio tour.
- Ride the cable car or walk back down, cross the lower deck of the Ponte Luís I to the Ribeira. The IVDP Port Wine Bar at Rua Ferreira Borges 27 opens 10:00-19:30 on weekdays.
- Cross back to Gaia for an evening visit. Sandeman and Ferreira run afternoon tours until 17:15 with doors closing at 18:00, and the Cálem Cellar Tour with Fado departs at 6:00 PM or 6:30 PM depending on the season.
Where the Port Cellars Are
Where are the port wine cellars in Porto?
Almost all of them are in Vila Nova de Gaia on the south bank of the Douro, not in Porto itself. The riverfront row runs along Avenida de Diogo Leite and Largo Miguel Bombarda, the big lodges climb the hill on Rua do Choupelo, and Cockburn's, Poças and Real Companhia Velha sit further out. The only port stop on the Porto side is the IVDP bar at Rua Ferreira Borges 27 in the Ribeira. See the riverfront cellars section for that row.
How do I get from Porto to the port cellars in Gaia?
Cross the Ponte Luís I on foot from the Ribeira, or take metro line D to Jardim do Morro at the Gaia end of the upper deck. From Jardim do Morro the Teleférico de Gaia drops you at the riverside in 3 minutes 45 seconds, with a round trip at €10 for adults. Details in the Teleférico de Gaia guide.
Which port cellars are closest to the bridge?
Burmester stands at Largo Ponte Luiz I, beside the Luis I bridge. Cálem and the rest of the Avenida de Diogo Leite row follow along the waterfront. The Burmester Cellar Tour card starts at $26.
Which port cellars can I visit without booking?
Taylor's on Rua do Choupelo and Fonseca on the same street both take walk-ins for their self-guided audio tours, with optional slots at Taylor's. Kopke's tasting room on Avenida de Diogo Leite and the Ramos Pinto walk-in tastings at Av. Ramos Pinto 400 need no reservation either, and the IVDP bar in the Ribeira is walk-in on weekdays. Sandeman and Ferreira, by contrast, require online booking through Sogrape.
Can I walk between the port cellars in one day?
Yes for most of them, since the riverfront and Rua do Choupelo addresses sit in the same district. Real Companhia Velha at Rua Azevedo Magalhães 314 is further out. How many tastings fit in a day is your call, but note that Sandeman and Ferreira close their doors at 18:00 with last tours at 17:15.
Is there a port wine cellar tour that covers several lodges at once?
Yes. Guided walks link several cellars in one outing, such as the Three Port Houses Walking Tour with entry tickets to three port houses and seven tastings in 3.5 to 4 hours. The full list of compared options sits on the homepage under Porto wine cellar tours.
