Sandeman Porto: Every Cellar Visit, Price and Tasting

The Sandeman Porto cellars stand on the Gaia riverfront, and this page covers every visit the house sells with its price, length and ports. You get the full table of the six visits from the Sogrape booking site, the opening hours with the midday break, the last tour times, how to book, and how to reach Largo Miguel Bombarda from the Ribeira side. There is also a plan for adding a second cellar the same afternoon, using either the lodges you can book yourself or the Porto wine cellar tours compared on the homepage. Every figure comes from the official Sandeman and Sogrape pages, or from the operator pages linked in the text. Nothing here is a tour operator pitch. If you would rather compare several houses at once, the map of port wine cellars and the comparison table on the homepage do that job.

Key takeaways

Every Sandeman Visit and What It Pours

Sandeman sells six visits for its Gaia cellars, all booked through the same Sogrape platform. The prices, lengths and port lists below come from the official sandeman.com cellar page, which names winetourism.sogrape.com as the booking site for each one.

The Six Visits Compared

Durations run from 50 minutes to 3 hours, and the port count runs from 3 to 6 ports. Three visits are held in The 1790 Room and two in the tasting room. The sources list no lunch and no hotel pickup, and food is named only on the Wine and Chocolate Experience, which adds chocolate.

The Sogrape booking site requires guests to confirm legal drinking age, and it offers booking in English, Portuguese, Spanish, German and French.

Which Visit Suits You

First port tasting: the Porto Sandeman Visit is the natural start. At €23 and 50 minutes it pours three styles side by side, White, Ruby and Tawny. If those names mean little to you yet, read up on the types of port wine before you go and the glasses will land better.

A tawny lover: the Sandeman Old Tawnies Visit is built for you. It pours four ports in a single line, Tawny aged 10, 20, 30 and 40 years, so you taste the effect of wood ageing side by side in The 1790 Room. It costs €53 and runs 1 h 30.

A workshop format: the Workshop Sandeman Port Wine lasts 3 hours, the longest visit the house sells, pours 5 ports in The 1790 Room and costs €100. It is the only visit framed as a workshop rather than a tour and tasting.

Chocolate pairing: the Sandeman Porto Wine and Chocolate Experience adds chocolate to 3 ports for €32 in 1 hour. It is the only visit on the list that names food.

Deep pockets and vintage interest: the Porto Sandeman Exclusive Experience pours 6 ports, Vintage Ports and Old Tawnies, in The 1790 Room for €170 over 2 h 30. That is the top of the Sandeman range in Gaia.

Middle ground: the Sandeman 1790 Visit gives you 5 ports in 1 h 30 for €35, which is the fullest tasting you can get in the standard tasting room.

Hours, Booking and the Lunch Break

Sandeman runs a split day with a midday closure, so time your arrival around it.

Opening Hours and Last Tours

The cellars open daily 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-18:00. The last tours leave at 12:15 in the morning and 17:15 in the afternoon, so book a slot that starts no later than those times. The cellars are closed between 12:30 and 14:00 and reopen at 14:00.

There is no stated difference between weekdays and weekends, the split day applies daily.

  • Morning window: 10:00-12:30, last tour 12:15
  • Lunch break: 12:30-14:00
  • Afternoon window: 14:00-18:00, last tour 17:15

How to Book and Who to Contact

All six visits book online at winetourism.sogrape.com, the same Sogrape platform that sells visits for other houses in the group. The booking flow asks you to confirm legal drinking age before you can enter a visit. The site runs in English, Portuguese, Spanish, German and French, and those are the languages you can book in.

For anything the form cannot handle, the visitor contact is sandeman.visitors@sandeman.com and +351 223 740 534. The printed address on the Sogrape page is Largo Miguel Bombarda Nr. 47, 4400-222 Vila Nova de Gaia.

What the Gate Means in Practice

The drinking-age confirmation is part of the booking itself, not a queue-side check you can improvise. Check the age confirmation before you book. The Sogrape site asks for it on entry, and the sources do not say whether younger guests are admitted to any of the six visits, so use the visitor contact above if your group includes them.

Getting to the Sandeman Cellars

The Sogrape page prints the Sandeman address as Largo Miguel Bombarda 47 in Vila Nova de Gaia. Three routes get you across from Porto.

On Foot Over the Lower Deck

The Dom Luís I bridge is a double-deck iron arch built 1881-1886. Both decks take pedestrians. The lower deck also carries public transport, and the upper deck carries the light rail and ends at the Jardim do Morro metro station on the Gaia side.

  • Lower deck: pedestrians plus public transport
  • Upper deck: metro line D plus pedestrians, reaches Jardim do Morro

By Cable Car

The Teleférico de Gaia runs from Jardim do Morro at the top down to Cais de Gaia on the riverside, a ride of 3 min 45 s. An adult one-way ticket costs €7 and a child aged 5-12 pays €3.50, while a return is €10 for adults and €5 for children. A family ticket for 2 adults plus 2 children costs €22.50 return, tickets are valid 30 days and Andante cards are not accepted.

For season-by-season hours, the dedicated page on the Teleférico de Gaia has the timetable detail.

TicketPrice
Adult one-way€7
Child 5-12 one-way€3.50
Adult return€10
Child 5-12 return€5

By Metro

Metro line D crosses the upper deck of the Dom Luís I bridge and stops at Jardim do Morro on the Gaia side, next to the cable car's upper station. From Jardim do Morro you either walk down or take the cable car to Cais de Gaia. The Metro do Porto fare table lists a Z2 single occasional ticket at €1.40, a 10-pack at €14 and the Andante card itself at €0.60.

Which zone covers Jardim do Morro is not confirmed, so check the fare before you travel.

Adding a Second Cellar the Same Afternoon

Sandeman opens daily 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-18:00, so a second stop the same afternoon can fit. You can book a guided tour through a platform, or book a house that sells its own visits.

Bookable Tours Near Sandeman

These are single-lodge tours sold through the catalog. The prices are the card prices on the homepage, and each link goes to the tour's page where the booking detail sits. For the full side-by-side, the comparison table on the homepage lines every tour up in one view.

Ferreira Next Door

Ferreira sells its visits on the same Sogrape platform as Sandeman, so you can book both houses in one booking style. The Dona Antónia Visit costs €35 for 1 h 30 and 5 port wines according to the official winetourism.sogrape.com page for Ferreira. Check the live Sogrape page for current Ferreira times before you plan a Sandeman morning and a Ferreira afternoon.

Ramos Pinto Further Along

Ramos Pinto runs its own visitor centre with three named tastings on the house's official page: the Classic Tasting at €20, the Prestige at €30 and the Heritage at €50. The visitor centre sits on Avenida Ramos Pinto in Gaia. One Visit Porto listing quotes a €10 short visit of about 30 minutes, which does not match the house's own page, so rely on the ramospinto.pt figures when you plan.
